In the third volume of the CCA Singles series, Itsuko Hasegawa revisits her earliest projects in conversation with a group of multidisplinary thinkers and a small audience. In western architectural discourse, the 1970s to 1990s are largely remembered as a time of intellectual and representational recall. Meanwhile in Japan, as the practice of architecture felt increasingly alienated from societal concerns, a group of young architects broke disciplinary conventions, seeking new relationships with society. Hasegawa’s approaches toward participatory design processes and technology stand out, today, as lessons to learn from. The conversation presented in this book was held as part of the CCA c/o Tokyo program and conceived by its curator, Kayoko Ota.
